Erase disc from Linux command line

PowerISO for Linux can erase a rewritable optical disc from command line or a batch file. The supported discs include CDRW, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, and BD-RE disc. It supports two erasing methods, quick erase and full erase. The full erase will destroy all contents in the disc completely, but it takes longer time to complete. 

Usage: poweriso erase-disc <drive path> [-switches]

<Switches>

  • -eject: Eject disc after erase.

  • -full-erase:  Perform a full erase. If not specified, a quick erase will be performed.

 

Example: Perform a quick erase for the disc in /dev/sg2.

Command: poweriso erase-disc /dev/sg2
