Rip CD to FLAC Files

You are here:  Tutorials > Rip CD to FLAC Files

A FLAC file is a Free Lossless Audio Codec file. It is a widely used lossless musical file format, which can offer exact copy of Audio CD, but only at half the size. With PowerISO, you can rip flac files from CD.

  • Run PowerISO, and select "Tools > Rip Audio CD" Menu.

  • A dialog will popup to prompt you select drive. Please select the drive which holds the disc you want to rip, and click "OK".

  • PowerISO shows CD Ripper window. It will list information about all tracks in the disc. Select the audio tracks which you want to rip, and then click "Rip" button on toolbar.

  • PowerISO shows flac ripper dialog. Enter the output folder, and set the output format to FLAC. The default file name format is "<Track Number>-<Track Title>.flac", you can change it if needed.

The output file mode can be multiples files or single file. If multiple files mode is selected, each track will be ripped to a separate flac file. For single file mode, a single flac and cue file will be created. The cue file contains information about all tracks, while flac file contains real compressed audio data.

To change the flac ripping settings, please click "Config..." button. The compression level "0" is fastest, but the file generated is largest, while compression level "8" is slowest, but file generate is smallest. Click "OK" to exit the flac settings dialog.

  • Click "OK" to start ripping flac files. A dialog will popup showing the progress information.
